Description

Product ID: DC60

Light as a summer morning, this seafoam ensemble introduces a softer, more romantic side to the collection. It balances the "cool" of the color with the "warmth" of gold zari and tiny, hand-woven floral motifs, making it a versatile piece that transitions beautifully from a daytime garden brunch to an evening celebration.

A relaxed V-neckline with delicate piping that leads into an empire-line gather, allowing the fabric to float away from the body.

“We do not see handloom as a category of product,” the founders explain. “We see it as a living knowledge system where ecology, memory, labour, mathematics, and cultural identity intersect.”

BeyondPreservation: The Politics of Continuity

Much of the contemporary discourse around heritage revolves around “preservation,” a term that can inadvertently freeze living traditions into static museum objects. Gulmohar rejects this framing. The founders argue that traditions survive not through replication, but through critical continuity—the ability to evolve without severing their cultural roots. This philosophy shapes our work with weaving communities across Bengal. Historical motifs are studied through archival research, architectural references, oral histories, and vernacular design vocabularies. Yet the goal is not faithful reproduction. Instead, complex historical compositions are distilled into forms that align with the technical realities and creative strengths of contemporary weavers.
